What started as a Corporate & Community Challenge in 2014 to help people Get Active, Eat Smart & Stay Accountable during the holiday season, evolved into a LIFESTYLE of change.
As I prepared for the kickoff, I made the decision to not only administer the program but instead "Lead by Example". This decision required me to lace up and began running every single day. This didn’t seem like a big deal at the start but I soon found that I was not a fan. You see, I was already a runner and ran on average 4- 5 days a week but those few extra days were a Killer! What I thought would be easy was challenging especially after eating dinner and late nights after a long day. On many nights, I thought the one mile would kill me. I couldn’t wait until new year's day came so I could resume my normal schedule and put this challenge to rest. Just as quickly as the ball dropped on New Years Eve, I was DONE!
Now fast forward to 2015, I was committed to doing the challenge & planned to be smart about it this time around. My new approach to the challenge, changed my perspective and my thoughts about streakers. I used to think people who ran everyday, were CRAY CRAY. Well I guess during this challenge, I joined the “crazy crew.” So much so, that I decided to keep going and conduct an EXPERIMENT to see what a difference one mile a day would make.
What started as 1 mile a day has turned into over 15,000 miles which include tons of half marathons, marathons, ultramarathons - 50K & 50 milers, sprint triathlons, 70.3 Half Ironman Triathlon and 140.6 Ironman Triathlon.
My life has been forever changed by 1 decision to run 1 mile...1 day at a time! If you are looking to experience real change in your life, start with 1 step and put1 foot in front of the other and before you know it, YOU WILL ARRIVE!
